A competition titled "Books are a Source of Knowledge" was held in Almaty, dedicated to National Book Day - April 23.

On April 23, 2026, the Print Media Technologies College hosted a citywide competition with national participation, "Books – a Source of Knowledge," among students of technical and vocational education institutions.
The event was timed to coincide with National Book Day, celebrated in Kazakhstan for the second year, and aimed at increasing youth interest in reading and promoting the national literary heritage.
The competition was organized by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the National State Book Chamber of Kazakhstan, Talap JSC, and the Educational and Methodological Association of the Print Media Technologies College of the Almaty City Department of Education.
The main goal of the competition was to develop students' intellectual and creative potential through promoting books as an important source of knowledge, as well as fostering a lasting interest in reading and a respectful attitude toward cultural values.
During the competition, participants demonstrated their creative abilities, broadened their horizons, and gained a new understanding of the rich heritage of Kazakh literature. The competition fostered interest in literary expression and stimulated youth creativity.
The event's dedication to outstanding figures in Kazakh literature and culture—Ybyrai Altynsarin, Zhambyl Zhabayev, Mukagali Makatayev, Kabdesh Zhumadilov, and Saiyn Muratbekov, whose anniversaries will be celebrated in 2026—gave special significance to the event.

The winners of the competition were:
1. Grand Prix: Sattar Bekzat Makhsatbekuly—KGKP "Almaty College of Energy and Electronic Technologies" (Director: Guzel Arkinovna Ushurova);
2. 1st Place: Abej Meruert Ernarqyzy—KGKP "College of Tourism and Hospitality Industry" (Director: Abejkul Nazym Batylzhanqyzy);
3. 2nd place: Serikbaeva Ayagoz Erlankyzy – Almaty Kazakh-Turkish Humanitarian Technological College (headed by Kuyshibaeva Dinara Baltabaevna);
2nd place: Abdullahat Raushan – Almaty Kazakh Humanitarian and Pedagogical College No. 1 (headed by Orazymbetova Asel Kusainovna);
4. 3rd place: Abenova Mariam – College of the Kazakh Leading Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering (headed by Kalkabaeva Gulzira Erkebaevna).

The competition winners received commemorative gifts – books by Kazakh writers from the National State Book Chamber of Kazakhstan.
Such competitions promote reading culture, develop spiritual and moral values, and support the creative potential of young people.
