College of Printmedia Technologies – Technical College No. 28 was opened by the decree of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR dated April 14, 1977. For more than 30 years, the team was led by Zhumadilda Zhuparbaevich Bazilov, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, "Excellent student of vocational education of the Kazakh SSR", "Baspa Zhane polygraphy isinin kayratkeri".

Over the years of its formation, the college has created a remarkable team of engineering and teaching staff from among the leading polygraph specialists of the republic, graduates of Moscow and Lviv polygraphic universities, Kuibyshev Publishing and Polygraphic College, who contributed to the development of the educational institution. This is Sofia Konstantinovna Velichko– Deputy Director for educational and industrial work, teachers of special disciplines: Raisa Andreevna Lomeyko, Kim Leonidovna Kovina. The best workers, the leaders of production, and the strikers of communist labor were sent to the school as masters of industrial training and equipment adjusters. These are Bugayeva Galina Tarasovna, Nikitin Vladimir Demyanovich, Hero of Socialist Labor, linotype adjuster Umirov Sagat Umirovich. With the opening of TU No. 28 in 1977, Sakiya Adievna Karipova and Katerina Kambarovna Kozhataeva, graduates of the State Technical Technical University No. 2 in Almaty, were invited to work as masters of industrial training.

TU No. 28, in accordance with the order of the City Department of Vocational Education No. 37 dated 08/15/1985, was renamed Secondary Vocational School No. 5.I would especially like to mention the eighties, which became the period of the true heyday of vocational school No. 5.

In 1987, Lyazzat Iskandarovna Ishmukhamedova was appointed Deputy Director for educational Work. Under her direct supervision, SPTU No. 5 participated and won the all-Union competition "Peer" among professional polygraphic educational institutions of the USSR. This participation opened up new opportunities and pushed the boundaries of communication with polygraphic schools across the country. Our students, masters of industrial training, teachers, winners of social competitions, visited many cities of the Soviet Union – Moscow, Leningrad, Kiev, Riga, Sevastopol, Odessa, Samarkand.  During the trips, good, friendly relations were established with colleagues in the profession.

In 1989, the polygraph school was awarded the title of Lenin Komsomol Prize Laureate of Kazakhstan for its high performance in the training of workers.

Numerous events: festivals, contests, and screenings enlivened and decorated the working days of the college. Notable people, famous artists and writers, and famous musical groups were invited to meet with the students. So, the poet Tumanbai Moldagaliev, singer Rosa Baglanova, film actor Sagi Ashimov, the Otrar-Sazy ensemble and others visited us.

Since the early nineties, the staff of Vocational school No. 5 has been persistently looking for new ways to develop the educational and methodological process, striving to update the content of vocational education, mastering new techniques and advanced technologies. In 1994, Natalia Vladimirovna Siamandi, an excellent student of education in the Republic of Kazakhstan, was appointed Deputy Director for educational and industrial work. She worked in this position until 2011, she was directly involved in adjusting the curricula of specialties, planning the school's educational activities, and carried out work on the transition to new VET standards.

To expand the educational activities of the school, licenses were obtained for new specialties: "Operator on computer typing equipment", "Corrector", "Marketing". In 1994, instead of the lost professions of manual and machine typesetter, vocational school No. 5 switched to training workers in a new specialty – "Computer typesetting operator". In this profession, they switched from simple typesetting and layout to more complex layout, mastered the elements of computer graphics, design, and color separation. The content and level of training in the traditional professions of "Printer", "Bookbinder", "Bookseller" have changed.

In 1996, SPTU No. 5 was reorganized into "Vocational School No. 5" in accordance with the Order of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 05/27/1996 No. 152.

Since 2000, Vocational School No. 5 has been training in the specialty "Proofreader" in the state language.

One of the important steps aimed at solving the problem of gaining access to new equipment and advanced technologies was the conclusion in 1997 of a cooperation agreement between PTS No. 5 and the Austrian company Heidelberg– an internationally recognized leader in the production of printing equipment. Thanks to this agreement, we have the opportunity to train specialists who possess the latest technologies, are able to work on the most modern equipment, and are in high demand on the labor market.

Since 2000, the school staff has been actively involved in the preparation and production of textbooks and teaching materials for primary vocational education. Our teachers have developed four state standards of primary vocational education, as well as a series of textbooks and teaching materials on specialties. The authors of these publications are the leading teachers of the school – Bazilov Zh. Zh., Bykova G. N., Fayzullina Zh., Makasheva S. S. The textbook "Fundamentals of the general course of printing production", author Bazilov Zh. Zh., workshops on printing and bookbinding processes, authors Amanzholova M. A., Kostyuchkova V. A., textbooks on materials science and color science, author Mukhamedalieva G. A. Kostyuchkova V.A. made a great contribution to the development and formation of the "Bookbinder" qualification, who worked her way up from master of industrial training to deputy director for educational and production work.

In 2002, Vocational School No. 5 was renamed "Vocational School No. 5" by the Decree of the Akimat of Almaty No. 63 dated 05/17/2002.

In October 2002, Secondary School No. 5 was accepted into the Association of Polygraph Examiners of Kazakhstan, which indicates the high prestige of the school among employers in the republic. In 2003, the school was awarded a diploma for its active participation in the national printing project and its great contribution to the development of the industry.

In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated July 27, 2007 "On Education", Secondary School No. 5 was reorganized into a professional lyceum.

In 2013, in accordance with the Resolution of the Akimat of Almaty No. 1/116 dated 02/18/2013, GU PL No. 5 was reorganized into the KGKP "Almaty College of Polygraphy" of the Almaty City Education Department.

From November 2009 to the present, the college has been headed by Candidate of Technical Sciences, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Mechanical Engineering and Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan Akhmetov Bilaldinalyakbarovich, who is the modern head of the college, working for the future growth of the educational institution, able to organize work in market conditions. Under the direct supervision and participation of Akhmetov B.A., the material and technical base of the college has been radically updated, making it possible to conduct classes using modern information and communication technologies. Major repairs have been carried out in the college buildings, in the cafeteria and in the dormitory.

According to the order of the Almaty City Department of Education dated April 1, 2010, an industry-specific educational and methodological center for training, retraining and advanced training of personnel for printing enterprises and publishing houses was established in our educational institution.

Since 2013, PL No. 5 has been receiving college status and is called the "Almaty College of Polygraphy". Now our graduates have the opportunity to receive higher polygraphic education in leading universities in Russia on a budgetary basis.

Since 2015, the college has been actively engaged in international activities with colleges and universities in such countries as Germany, Belarus, Russia, China, France, Estonia, and Japan.

The college uses an electronic learning system that allows for high-quality education using information and communication technologies. The college implements a dual training system, a modular competence approach, which are designed to provide high-quality training for specialists.

In 2023, a Competence Center was opened at the college, on the basis of which not only students of the college itself study, but also students of colleges and universities in Almaty receive education and training.

Since 2024, the name of the college has changed – "College of Printmedia Technologies", and changes have also been made to the college's Charter.

The number of applicants is increasing every year, as the need for publishing and printing personnel is growing.

Employers highly appreciate the quality of professional training at the college. These are large developing enterprises – the Republican publishing and Printing complex "Dauir", the Atamura Corporation "Polygrafkombinat" LLP, the publishing and printing corporation "Alatau" and private printing houses – "Edelweiss", "Irgetas" and many others. From a modest regional printing house to the flagships of the Kazakh printing industry, this is the range of labor participation of college graduates.
